About

Built by a mechanic who learned websites the hard way.

I left school and went to college to train as a mechanic. A work placement turned into a job in a garage in Cupar, Fife — and I've been in the motor trade ever since. Along the way I taught myself SEO, built websites for my own businesses, and now use those two worlds to help other trades and small businesses get found and get busy.

From the trade to the web

I didn't come into this through a marketing degree or a web-design course. I came in through a workshop. After college I started a work placement that led to a full-time job in a garage in Cupar, Fife, and I've worked in the motor trade ever since — diagnostics, servicing, MOTs, the whole lot.

At the same time I was teaching myself how websites actually work. That started well over 15 years ago, long before SEO became a buzzword every garage owner hears. I learned it the same way I learned to fix cars: by getting stuck in, breaking things, figuring out why, and trying again until it worked.

Being dyslexic and having ADHD means I don't process information the way a textbook marketer might. What it has given me is a real understanding of how useful the right tools can be. There are so many apps, systems and AI helpers available now that simply didn't exist a few years ago — and they genuinely level the playing field. I use them myself, and I want to put that advantage back into the hands of people running real businesses.

That's what BMR Digital is. Not an agency built to impress other agencies. Just someone who understands both the workshop and the website, helping trades and local businesses get more enquiries, run smoother, and stop losing work to things that could have been fixed easily.

What I actually do for businesses

I build websites that are fast, clear and structured properly for Google and AI search. I fix the technical problems that hold sites back. I help businesses show up for the searches their customers are actually typing in. And when it makes sense, I build custom systems — booking flows, job diaries, customer databases, SMS reminders, automated enquiry handling — so the business stops drowning in admin.

Most of this was first tested on my own sites and businesses. The garage management tools, the local SEO pages, the review systems, the booking flows — I built them because I needed them myself. That is a very different starting point from someone who has only ever built sites for clients.

How this started

Everything here was learned by doing it. Building websites, breaking them, fixing them, watching Search Console for months, working out which changes actually moved rankings and which were a waste of a weekend.

That included the unglamorous parts: page speed, redirects after a rebuild, structured data, keyword research that reflects how people really search, and content written for customers rather than for a word count.

It also meant building real business systems — booking flows, job diaries, customer databases, SMS reminders and automated enquiry handling — for businesses that were losing work to missed calls and admin chaos.

When other business owners started asking for help, it turned into this. No investors, no sales floor — just the person doing the work talking directly to the person paying for it.

How we work

  • You speak to the person building your website or system

  • Prices are on the website, before you enquire

  • No 12-month contracts or plans you can't leave

  • You own your website, your domain and your data

  • We never guarantee rankings, because nobody can

  • Plain English reports, not 40 pages of graphs

  • We'll tell you when you don't need something

  • SEO, AI search and business systems built in, not sold as upsells

What we won't do

We won't promise page one in 30 days. We won't buy links. We won't write 40 thin town pages and call it local SEO. We won't invent case study numbers, and you'll notice this site doesn't quote traffic figures we can't evidence.

If a job isn't right for us — too big, too specialist, or genuinely unnecessary — we'll say so rather than take the money.

You can see the sites we build and run for ourselves on the BMR Digital Network page.

Have a straightforward conversation about your website.

No pitch deck. Tell us what the business does and what you want more of.

In more depth

The practical detail

It's Not Just Garages

Our story started in the motor trade, and we specialise in helping tradespeople get found online. But the same principles apply to any business that needs to connect with local customers or a specific online audience. We build practical, effective websites and systems for a whole range of sectors.

Looking at our work, you'll see everything from campervan hire companies and HGV driver training schools to online magazines and AI tool directories. We have learned what works for different business models, whether you're renting assets, selling a service, or building a digital community. The common thread is a no-nonsense approach to getting results.

What Does It Cost?

We put prices on the website because nobody has time for a sales pitch just to get a number. Our guide prices for new websites are typically £499, £999, or £1499, depending on the size and complexity. For ongoing SEO work, our monthly packages are £199, £399, or £799.

For everything else, including custom business systems, app development, or design work like logos and leaflets, we provide a detailed quote. You'll know exactly what you're paying for before we begin.

Getting Your Business Ready for AI Search

You're probably hearing a lot about AI. For us, it's just another tool. AI-search optimisation isn't about magic tricks; it's the next step in technical SEO. It means structuring your website's data so that new AI-powered search engines can understand who you are, what you do, and why you're a good choice for a customer.

We build this capability in from the start, making your services, location, and expertise clear to both humans and machines. This is about future-proofing your online presence, ensuring you don't get left behind as search habits change.

Why We Use a Contact Form

You'll notice we use a contact form instead of listing a phone number. This is a deliberate choice. It allows us to focus on our current clients' work without constant interruption, which is how we keep projects on track and deliver on time.

It also means we have a clear, written record of your enquiry from the very beginning. Nothing gets lost in translation or forgotten from a quick call. It's the first step in the organised, system-led approach we apply to all our work.
