BMRDIGITAL

The BMR Digital Network

We didn't learn this from a course. We learned it running our own businesses.

I went to college to be a mechanic, a work placement turned into a job in a garage in Cupar, Fife, and I've been in the motor trade ever since. The websites, SEO and business systems grew out of that — first for my own garage in Birnam, Perthshire, then for a network of real UK sites across automotive, AI, print and training.

In short
Everything we sell — websites, SEO, local search, AI search and design — we first built for our own businesses. These are those sites, live and public, so you can judge the work rather than the pitch.

How it started

The path began in college, training to be a mechanic. A work placement led to a job in a garage in Cupar, Fife, and that turned into a career in the motor trade. Years later, Bob's Mechanical Repairs in Birnam, near Dunkeld in Perthshire, became the workshop where all the digital work was first tested. It grew into a DVSA-approved MOT testing station covering diagnostics, ECU remapping and full mechanical repairs, with customers travelling in from Perth, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and across Perthshire.

The admin, though, was a nightmare. Paper job cards, spreadsheets, whiteboards and a couple of off-the-shelf garage systems that were either too complicated, too expensive or clearly designed by people who had never set foot in an independent workshop. So we built our own — a job diary first, then job cards, customer and vehicle histories, MOT reminders, invoicing and parts stock.

That is the same instinct behind every website we build now: work out how the business actually runs, then build something that gets out of the way.

Built inside a working business

The first website, the first local pages and the first booking system were all made because a garage in Birnam needed them. Nothing here started as a theory.

Real problems, not features

Every part of the garage system exists because something was going wrong — job cards nobody could read, MOT dates chased by hand, invoices done twice.

Speed beats polish

A mechanic needs to update a job in thirty seconds with a customer waiting. Websites are the same: if it's slow or fiddly, people leave.

Say the true thing

Tell people the truth, charge a fair price, do the job properly. That works on a website exactly the way it works on a ramp.

The sites in the network

Each one is a live, public website. Different trades, same rules: fast pages, clear structure, honest wording and a reason for every page to exist.

Common questions

What is the BMR Digital Network?

It's the group of real UK websites and platforms built and run by the same people behind BMR Digital — starting with an independent garage in Perthshire and growing into automotive, digital, AI, print and training sites.

Why does that matter if I just want a website?

Because every site in the network is one we have to live with. They are built, ranked, maintained and fixed by us, so the advice you get is based on running websites day to day rather than theory.

Do you only work with garages?

No. The automotive experience runs deepest, but the same approach works for trades, retail, hospitality, professional services and small businesses in any sector.

Can you build something custom, like a booking or admin system?

Yes — the garage management system behind Bob's Mechanical Repairs was built in-house because off-the-shelf software didn't fit how a real workshop runs. Tell us the workflow and we'll tell you honestly whether custom is worth it.

Built by people who run their own sites.

Send us your website or just describe the business. We'll tell you what we'd change first and what it would cost.

In more depth

The practical detail

Why run our own websites?

Think of our network as our workshop. Just like a mechanic would test a new diagnostic tool on their own car first, we test every SEO strategy, website feature and business system on our own live projects. These aren't just portfolio pieces; they are active businesses.

This means when we suggest an approach for your business, it isn't a theory from a textbook. It’s been tested in the real world, on sites like East Fife Garage Services or Caledonian Tourers, and we’ve seen how it works. We test ideas on our own sites first.

Built for how brains actually work

Our founder has dyslexia and ADHD. That’s not a footnote; it’s central to how we build things. We can't stand confusing layouts, overly complex systems or long-winded text, because our own brains don't work that way.

So, we build everything for clarity and speed. A website has to be simple to navigate and get straight to the point. We design for people who are busy, distracted, or just want the answer without any nonsense. It turns out that search engines and actual customers prefer that, too.

The same rules apply to every trade

A directory for AI tools looks very different from a local garage site. But underneath, the principles are identical. Every page must load quickly. Every link must have a clear purpose. Every sentence must be direct and honest.

We apply these rules whether we're building a local service business like Direct HGV Driver Training, a content-heavy resource like Car Manual All Makes, or a niche publisher like Pentland Press. The industry changes; the fundamentals of a good, trustworthy website do not.

Our testbed for SEO and new tech

Search is always changing. With over 15 years of hands-on SEO experience, we know you can't stand still. We use our own network to figure out what works now, not what worked two years ago.

Sites like IT Advise and SpeakersMag are where we experiment with the latest in AI-search optimisation and different content structures. We learn and refine our methods on our own time and budget, long before we’d offer it as a service.

From our problems to your solutions

Every service we offer started as a solution to one of our own problems. The MOT Assistant app was built because we needed a better way to manage reminders. Our logo and leaflet design work grew from creating our own artwork for Pimp My Photos.

We don't have a department dreaming up new things to sell. We have real business headaches, and we build practical tools to fix them. Then we make those proven tools and methods available to other businesses that face the same challenges.
